Sri Lanka has made the ETA free for Russian citizens

Since 25 May 2026 the 30-day ETA carries no government fee for citizens of 40 countries, Russia among them.

Sri Lanka has widened the list of countries that get the tourist ETA free of charge. Since 25 May 2026 the list holds 40 states, including Russia.

What the authorisation gives you

  • A stay of up to 30 days
  • Two entries within the validity period
  • A government fee of zero for Russian citizens

The authorisation itself has not gone anywhere: you still have to obtain the ETA before you fly, you simply no longer pay the state for it. The passport must be valid for at least 6 months on the date of entry.

If you plan to stay longer than 30 days, the extension is arranged locally and costs money.
